🎣 BONEFISH
Rod: 6–8 wt fly rod (light for their size)
Flies: Bonefish flats fly (1–3 inches), shrimp patterns, crab imitations
Technique: Cast 30 feet ahead, let them come to you, set hook on the take
🎣 PERMIT
Rod: 7–9 wt, stiff. They fight HARD.
Lures: Small live crabs (natural or crab flies), tiny jigs
Technique: Long cast, dead drift the fly near the fish's mouth, NO false casts
🎣 TARPON
Rod: 12–14 wt heavy fly rod OR baitcasting 50+ lb
Live Bait: Mackerel, mullet (bridge fishing)
Technique: Strip flies 1–2 feet, wait for eat, set hook hard (multiple times)

Winter (Dec–Feb)
Permit, Spanish mackerel are active. Tarpon in channels. Flats slow.
Spring (Mar–May)
PRIME SEASON. Tarpon run, permit on flats, bonefish schools forming. Best visibility.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
Slow inshore. Marlin & wahoo offshore peak. Water warm, afternoon thunderstorms.
Fall (Sep–Nov)
Recovery season. Hurricane risk. Flats fish return late October. Permit still good.
